Sogetsu Ikebana Los Angeles Branch
Sogetsu is one of several ikebana flower arranging schools founded in Japan, but now followed by practitioners throughout the world. The Sogetsu School was founded by the late headmaster Sofu Teshigahara in 1927. Sofu developed a school of ikebana that was deeply rooted in Japanese tradition, yet embraced the evolving requirements of the modern age. The current headmaster, Akane Teshigahara, is the fourth generation in a succession of family members to lead the school. Her beautiful, bold and delicate works have been shown in exhibitions worldwide.
In the Spring of 1985, Sogetsu headquarters in Japan officially established the Los Angeles Branch as part of its North American Overseas Division.
• The Sogetsu Los Angeles Branch held an online Summer Katen for 2021. This exhibition, similar to the Fall 2020 Katen, presents arrangements photographed at home. You can view the full exhibit here.
• The Sogetsu Los Angeles Branch Fall 2020 Katen held an online event, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Inspired by the Sogetsu exercise of using various locations for creating ikebana, each arrangement was photographed in the member's home. You can view on this website here.
• We are sad to report the passing of Masako Fukui, the senior Sogetsu ikebana master of our Los Angeles Branch. She will be greatly missed.
